Gavel & Dorn Engineering, PLLC (G&D) is pleased to announce that the Hechenbleikner Dam Rehabilitation project for UNCC has received final approval and authorization to impound from the North Carolina Dam Safety Office. The high hazard dam repair presented a myriad of challenges that were successfully overcome by the G&D design team. A description of the project is provided on the UNCC web page via this link.

Gavel & Dorn Engineering Opens Satellite Office

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA – Gavel & Dorn Engineering, PLLC (G&D), a full-service civil engineering consultancy, is pleased to announce the opening of its first satellite office. G&D has opened an office in Greenville, South Carolina to provide service to our clients located in the upstate of South Carolina. Greenville was the logical location for G&D’s first satellite office due to the number of existing local clients, a strong market for our diverse capabilities, especially as related to SSES and sanitary sewer rehabilitation, and its strategic location on I-85 for servicing other markets in South Carolina.
The Greenville office is led by Mr. Trae Long, P.E. who recently joined G&D after serving as Capital Improvements Project Manager at the Metropolitan Sewer Subdistrict. Mr. Long’s diverse experience at Metropolitan included managing the Inflow/Infiltration (I/I) Program that successfully eliminated one million gallons of I/I in 2010 and planning Sewer System Evaluation Surveys (SSES) for over 160,000 LF of collection mains each year. Mr. Long also served as manager of the sanitary sewer rehabilitation construction projects ranging up to $1.5 Million while ensuring construction complied with all regulations, schedules, and budget constraints. Mr. Long is a graduate of Clemson and has strong ties to the Greenville area, having grown up in Simpsonville.
Mr. Long will joined in our Greenville office by Mr. John Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan possesses more than 25 years of relevant experience in construction management. His experience is wide ranging and includes water and wastewater systems, road and bridge construction and storm water projects. He has repeatedly demonstrated his capability to administer complex projects and construction processes within strict budgetary and time constraints. He is versatile and innovative in his approach to protecting the interests of the client. Mr. Sullivan is a graduate of the University of Southern Colorado.

Gavel & Dorn Engineering Announces New Partner

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA – Gavel & Dorn Engineering, PLLC (G&D), a full-service civil engineering consultancy, is pleased to announce that Mr. Sean Mayo, PE, has been promoted to partner of the firm. Mr. Mayo is an experienced civil site development engineer with over ten years of progressive experience in all aspects of civil engineering.
His land development design experience includes site layout, roadway horizontal and vertical alignment, water and sanitary sewer utilities, grading, erosion and sedimentation control, storm water drainage, and storm water management. Prior to joining G&D, Mr. Mayo was a project engineer for the John R. McAdams Co. of Charlotte. Mr. Mayo is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a degree in Civil Engineering Technology and also has a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Mr. Mayo is a licensed professional civil engineer in North Carolina. Mr. Mayo is married with two children and an avid runner who recently completed the Boston Marathon with a time of 3:08:51. Mr. Mayo will be responsible for heading G&D’s land development division, while supporting G&D’s core municipal civil infrastructure projects.

Gavel & Dorn Engineering Opens New Office

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA – Gavel & Dorn Engineering, PLLC (G&D), a full-service civil engineering consultancy founded in 2008, is pleased to announce that it has relocated its main office to 6730 Freedom Drive, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Strategically located in the ‘tank town’ area of Charlotte, the office is near the airport and major highways.
The new larger space was required to house G&D’s expanding operations and plans for future growth and will be home to G&D diverse staff of engineering, construction, and geotechnical professionals. Positioned on 1.4 acres, the almost 7,000 square foot facility will allow G&D to continue to expand its capabilities to support its public and private clients with new offices, conference room, and a construction materials testing laboratory.
