Gavel & Dorn Engineering, PLLC (G&D) is a small, growing, civil engineering consultancy specializing in the design and rehabilitation of water resources infrastructure. We specialize in sanitary sewer flow metering, modeling, and pipeline and rehabilitation designs. Resident Project Representatives work in the field at construction job sites to adhere to project specifications and standards. Resident Project Representatives work directly with contractors, engineers, clients, and project managers to ensure compliance. Work opportunities are, but not limited to:

  • Working with general supervision from the Project Manager or Client
  • Maintaining accurate daily record of construction site conditions and activities; significant events, issues or problems; and communications between parties
  • Photographing construction progress and cataloging photos for future reference
  • Producing required reports on contractor’s progress, quality, schedule and budget status
  • Reviewing contractor pay requests, including stored materials
  • Working with the Project Manager to evaluate project schedules and prepare status reports
  • Conducting weekly coordination meetings with the contractor; documenting and distributing meeting minutes
  • Assisting with RFI and submittal review
  • Possessing a fundamental understanding of contracts and familiarity with codes and laws governing construction
  • Additional duties may require coordination and supervision of construction materials testing services

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in civil engineering related field or equivalent experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Prior experience in the field, observing and documenting daily construction work activities (ideally water/wastewater)
  • Prior experience as a lead Resident Project Representative, lead inspector, or construction superintendent</li
  • Strong organization, communication (written and verbal), and time management skills
  • Accurately track and enter hours worked on projects daily into a timesheet

Job Overview:
Engineering Technicians work in the field and at the office to fulfill a variety of job functions. This position provides opportunity to career development and increased responsibilities in a growing company. Work opportunities are, but not limited to:

  • Inspect the condition of existing sanitary sewer systems
  • Install, download, and process data from sanitary sewer flow meters to determine average and peak flow characteristics
  • Complete smoke testing and manhole inspections and accurately document defects
  • Conduct construction materials testing and analysis (soil, concrete, etc.)
  • Draft detailed dimensional drawings and design layouts for projects
  • Prepare reports and document project activities and data
  • Calculate dimensions, square footage, profile and component specifications, and material quantities
  • Manage data using GIS tables, spreadsheets, and other applications
  • Oversee construction sites to determine compliance with project specifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in civil engineering related field or equivalent experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Comfortable entering confined spaces
  • Strong organization, communication (written and verbal), and time management skills
  • Accurately track and enter hours worked on projects daily into a timesheet
  • Seek direction and research solutions for routine and complex design issues
  • Uses self-motivation and takes initiative to ensure tasks are complete and on schedule

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with ESRI ArcMap (GIS) and AutoCAD Civil 3-D
  • Confined Space Entry Certification
  • Knowledge of a variety of sanitary sewer inspection methods and standards
  • Experience with construction materials testing methods and standards
